Booking Page Privacy Notice
Effective date: 20 May 2026
What this page is. This notice applies when a practice has enabled ad-platform measurement on their Your Booking online booking page. It explains what extra data is collected by those third-party services. It does not replace the practice's own privacy policy, which covers how they handle your personal and health information.
1. Who runs this booking page
This booking page is operated by the optometry practice you're booking with, using software provided by Your Booking. The practice is the data controller for your personal and clinical information. Your Booking acts as a service provider — patient bookings pass through our infrastructure but are not stored on our servers (see Your Booking's main privacy policy for the full picture).
2. What's different on this booking page
The practice has chosen to measure the performance of their digital advertising. To do that, this booking page includes one or both of the following tracking technologies:
- Meta Pixel — provided by Meta Platforms (the company behind Facebook and Instagram).
- Google Ads Tag — provided by Google.
These run in your browser, the same way they would on any website that uses them.
3. What information is sent to Meta and Google
When you visit the booking page, the tracking scripts send information to Meta and/or Google. The exact data varies by provider, but typically includes:
- Your IP address
- Browser type and version, device type, screen size
- The URL of the booking page you're viewing
- The URL of the page that referred you (if any)
- Cookies set by Meta / Google to recognise your browser across visits
- A signal when you successfully complete a booking (so the practice can measure how many ad clicks turned into appointments)
4. Your personal information is kept private
Your name, date of birth, Medicare number, contact details, and any clinical information you enter into the booking form are not sent to Meta or Google. The tracking scripts only see the technical signals listed above — they have no access to the contents of the booking form.
5. Where this data is stored
Meta and Google are large international companies. Data sent to them is processed and stored on servers outside Australia, primarily in the United States and Ireland. Both companies are bound by their own privacy policies and the privacy laws of the jurisdictions they operate in.
6. Why the practice is doing this
The practice runs paid advertising on Google or Meta to reach prospective patients. The tracking lets them measure which ads actually led to bookings, so they can spend their advertising budget effectively. It also helps Meta and Google's automated systems show their ads to people more likely to need an appointment.
7. How to opt out
You can limit or stop this tracking in several ways:
- Browser settings — most modern browsers (Safari, Firefox, Brave) block third-party tracking by default. Chrome's "Enhanced Tracking Protection" or Edge's "Strict" tracking prevention also reduce what's shared.
- Ad-blocker extensions — uBlock Origin, Privacy Badger, and similar tools block Meta Pixel and Google Ads tags at the network level.
- Meta opt-out — adjust your ad preferences at facebook.com/adpreferences/ad_settings if you have a Meta account.
- Google Ads opt-out — manage personalised advertising at adssettings.google.com.
- Book another way — you can always book by phoning the practice directly. Their phone number is in the booking page footer.
8. The practice's own privacy policy
This notice only covers the extra ad-measurement tracking on the booking page. Your wider relationship with the practice — your patient record, what they do with your contact details, how long they keep your information — is governed by the practice's own privacy policy. If the practice has provided one, the booking page footer links to it. If you can't find it, ask the practice directly.
9. Australian Privacy Act
The handling of your personal information by the practice is governed by the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. The practice is the responsible entity. Your Booking, as a service provider to the practice, is bound by the same obligations to the extent we handle information on their behalf.
10. Changes to this notice
We may update this notice from time to time to reflect changes in the tracking technologies practices use or applicable privacy law. The effective date at the top indicates when it was last revised.
