Ad Tracking (Meta & Google Ads)

Measure whether your Facebook, Instagram or Google ads actually turn into booked appointments — not just clicks and likes.

Early access: Ad Tracking is an early-access feature. If you don't see the Ad Tracking card under Setup → Features → Beta, ask us to switch early access on for your practice.

What It Does

When Ad Tracking is on, your booking page tells your ad platform two things:

  1. Someone visited the booking page — so the platform can connect the visit back to an ad they saw or clicked.
  2. Someone completed a booking — the moment a patient finalises an appointment, a "booking completed" signal fires.

That second signal is the one that matters. With it, Meta and Google can report which ads produced actual appointments, what each booking cost you, and — over time — get better at showing your ads to the kinds of people who book.

You only need the platform you actually advertise on. The Meta and Google halves are independent: if you only run Facebook or Instagram ads, set up the Meta Pixel and leave the Google fields blank (and vice versa).

No patient details are sent to Meta or Google. The signals say a booking happened, not who booked — no names, no appointment details, nothing from your patient records. The ad platforms do their matching with their own cookies, the same way they do on any website that uses their tags.

Before You Start

Set Up Meta (Facebook & Instagram)

Step 1: Find your Meta Pixel ID

  1. Go to Meta Events Manager (log in with the account that manages your practice's Facebook page).
  2. Under Data Sources, select your pixel — or create one if you don't have one yet (Connect Data Sources > Web, give it your practice name, takes a couple of minutes).
  3. Copy the Pixel ID (also called a dataset ID) — a long number like 123456789012345. It's shown under the pixel's name and in its Settings.

Meta rearranges this area from time to time, but the ID is always visible in Events Manager under your data source's details or settings.

Step 2: Add it to Your Booking

  1. Log in to your Your Booking admin and go to Setup.
  2. Scroll to Beta Features > Ad Tracking and click Edit.
  3. Paste the number into Meta Pixel ID.
  4. Turn on Enable ad-platform tracking and save.

That's it — the pixel is live on your booking page immediately.

Step 3: Check it's working

  1. Back in Meta Events Manager, open your pixel and go to the Test Events tab.
  2. Enter your booking page address (e.g. yourpractice.yourbooking.au) and open it.
  3. You should see a PageView event appear within a few seconds.
  4. To confirm the booking signal, complete a test booking — a Schedule event should appear when you finalise it. (Remember to cancel the test appointment afterwards.)

Set Up Google Ads

Only worth doing if you run (or plan to run) Google ads. You'll set up two values — both come from creating a conversion action in Google Ads:

Step 1: Create the conversion action

  1. In Google Ads, go to Goals > Conversions (older accounts: Tools > Conversions).
  2. Create a new conversion action: choose Website, and for the goal pick something like Book appointment / Submit lead form.
  3. When Google shows you the tag details, note two values:
    • the Tag ID — starts with AW-, e.g. AW-123456789
    • the Conversion label — a short code shown alongside it, e.g. AbCdEfGhIj0123456789

You don't need to install any tag on your website — Your Booking handles that part.

Step 2: Add them to Your Booking

In Setup > Beta Features > Ad Tracking, paste the two values into Google Ads Tag ID and Google Ads Conversion Label, make sure Enable ad-platform tracking is on, and save.

Both values are needed for booking conversions to be counted. With only the Tag ID, Google still sees booking-page visits but won't record bookings as conversions.

Step 3: Check it's working

Google verifies conversion tags on its own schedule — the conversion action's status in Google Ads typically moves from Inactive to Active/Recording conversions within a day or two of the first booking-page visit. If it's still inactive after a few days, double-check both values match what Google Ads shows for the conversion action.

The Privacy Link

When Ad Tracking is on, your booking page shows patients a Privacy link explaining that ad-measurement cookies are in use. By default it points to a generic Your Booking notice — you can preview it here.

If your practice has its own privacy policy online, paste its address into the Privacy Policy URL field on the Ad Tracking card and the link will point there instead. If you do, it's worth checking your policy mentions the use of advertising cookies or analytics — most website privacy policies already do.

Getting the Most Out of It

Turning It Off

Switch off Enable ad-platform tracking on the Ad Tracking card and save. No pixels load and no signals fire, regardless of what's in the ID fields — you can leave the IDs saved for next time.
